The Theo Boerma Cup returns in 2026 with a theme that perfectly aligns with the future of floristry: 100% organic. On Friday, September 4, 2026, florists and floral artists will gather at the Boerma Institute in Aalsmeer for an international competition where creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability take center stage.

The theme of 2026: 100% organic floral arrangements
For 2026, the challenge lies in the theme of 100% organic floral arrangements. This means working with materials that come from nature. No regular floral foam, no plastic, no wire, or other artificial aids. Instead, participants are challenged to use natural alternatives, such as plant-based shapes, twine, beeswax, branches, fibers, and other organic materials.
It is precisely this limitation that makes the theme so interesting. When familiar technical solutions fall away, space is created for innovation. How do you build strength without wire? How do you create form without plastic support? How do you ensure balance, durability, and refinement using only natural materials? The assignment calls not only for beauty but also for inventiveness and a deep understanding of materials.

Sustainability in floristry
In doing so, the Theo Boerma Cup 2026 aligns with a development that is becoming increasingly important within the profession. Clients, designers, and educational institutions are looking more consciously at sustainability and environmentally friendly choices. Working 100% organically is not only an artistic challenge but also a way to demonstrate that floral art can be honest, future-oriented, and in balance with nature.
The previous edition, in 2024, had the theme “The Enchanted Garden” and was won by Aleksandra Flak from Poland. Her design managed to beautifully translate the magic of the theme into a floral arrangement full of technique and imagination. In 2026, the focus shifts from enchantment to awareness, without the sense of wonder disappearing. On the contrary: natural materials, in particular, can possess enormous poetic power.

Programma Theo Boerma Cup 2026
The competition takes place at the Boerma Institute in Aalsmeer and accommodates a maximum of twelve participants. Participants work on their designs from 10:00 to 14:00, after which the works are judged by an expert jury consisting of Bill Schaffer, Kristine Kratt, and Mike Boerma IMF. The award ceremony takes place at 19:30.
The prizes also make participation extra attractive, including Master Classes, tool kits, gift vouchers, and of course the handmade bronze Theo Boerma Cup. But the greatest value perhaps lies in the experience itself: working at a high level, challenging yourself, sharing your vision, and being part of an international tradition full of passion for the craft.
