The Boerma Instituut in Aalsmeer, the international school for floral design, is seeking an experienced Floral Design Instructor to inspire and guide our students. About the Boerma Instituut

The Boerma Instituut was founded in 1980 by Theo and José Boerma and is now led by Jacqueline Boerma, the fourth generation of a floral family with a history dating back to 1896. Our school offers foundational courses, international vocational programs, masterclasses, and the prestigious Master Florist program, attracting students from all over the world.

Job Description

As a Floral Design Instructor, you will teach both classical and modern floral techniques and mentor students from diverse nationalities. Your responsibilities include:

International Vocational Program Dutch Floral Design (level 1)
International Advanced Program (level 2)
International Master Florist Program (level 3)
Hand-tied Bouquet courses (levels 1-3)
Funeral and Wedding Floral courses
Event floral arrangements and private lessons

Additionally, you will prepare lessons, order materials, create inspirational sample pieces, and support students in competitions and events.

International Work

This position requires regular international travel, for example to our sister school in Taiwan, our partner EFD in Japan, and various international workshops and events across Asia, North and South America, and Europe.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking an exceptionally experienced floral artist capable of teaching at Master Florist (Meesterbinder) level. Requirements include:

Master Florist Diploma (Meesterbinder) with transcript
- Diploma with an average grade of at least 8, or an internationally equivalent
- Transcript must be submitted
In-depth knowledge of the Golden Rule
- Ability to explain, demonstrate, and teach the application of the Golden Rule
- Understanding of proportion, Fibonacci, spatial dynamics, and composition
Excellent skills in asymmetrical floral work
- Mastery of floral rhythm, placement, and dominance
- Ability to convey techniques and theoretical principles to students
Teaching at Master Florist level
- This is the most important criterion
Extensive portfolio of own work
- Portfolio must be submitted with the application
- Formal interview follows portfolio approval
Color Theory
- In-depth knowledge of color, shades, harmony, contrast, and composition
- Ability to explain and demonstrate effective color application in floral arrangements
Nomenclature
- Knowledge of correct terminology for flowers, plants, and materials
- Ability to clearly communicate international and Dutch terms to students
Willingness to learn Dutch
- English is currently the working language, but Dutch knowledge is desired in the long term
International teaching experience
- Experience teaching students from different cultures is preferred

Additionally, the candidate must possess a strong artistic vision, excellent technical skills, pedagogical abilities, and flexibility to travel internationally.
