I had a wonderful experience at Boerma Institute. The teachers are highly professional and truly passionate about their craft. The course gave me strong foundations in floristry and challenged me to grow. It was intense at times, but absolutely worth it. I loved every minute of it.

I enrolled for Christmas deco course which was amazing and made me feel go ahead with other courses I plan to attend in January. The course is bilingual: both Dutch and English spoken. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed a lot. We were welcomed with a warm drink in their lovely cafeteria. Lunch was included in the price and coffe and cookies break, too. Most importantly I was very excited as a beginner to learn new floral skills and left the course super happy. I will come back for sure:) Teachers are lovely too!

Attending the International Master Florist Certification program at the Boerma Instituut, in Aalsmeer, Netherlands, was a transformative milestone in my professional journey as a floral designer. Under the instruction of German Master Florist Gregor Lersch, I was immersed in an intensive curriculum that expanded both my technical skills and creative perspective. The program challenged me to think more intentionally about design through principles such as formlinear composition, the Golden Rule, vegetative design, displacement, and the relationship of contrast. I also gained hands-on experience with bouquet frames, plant design, bridging and scaling, large room installations, and the importance of precise nomenclature and sketching as foundational tools for planning and execution.
Throughout the course, I explored new techniques that pushed me beyond my comfort zone and encouraged innovation. I developed a deeper appreciation for structure and storytelling within floral design, learning how to balance artistic expression with technical precision. Each project
reinforced the importance of mechanics, proportion, and harmony, while also allowing space for personal interpretation and creativity.
The final examination consisted of five components: botanical identification, a bridal bouquet, a freestanding hand-tied bouquet, a buffet piece, and a displacement design. I am proud to have graduated cum laude, meaning “with honors,” as my scores remained consistently above
average. I was especially honored that my work resonated with the judges.
My use of deconstructed Alpinia in a highly decorative application stood out, as did the well-defined and layered color palette in my displacement piece. My buffet design demonstrated strong use of repetition and was constructed entirely from scratch, while my bouquet frame featured elongated feet and incorporated wool alongside botanical elements, showcasing both texture and structural creativity.
My experience at Boerma Institute profoundly elevated my design style and reignited my passion for flowers. It refined my approach to floral artistry and strengthened my confidence in both conceptualizing and executing complex designs. I am deeply grateful to the American Floral
Endowment for providing the scholarship that made this opportunity possible. Their support has enabled me not only to achieve this personal goal but also to give back to the floral community by sharing the knowledge and techniques I have gained. I am committed to helping others grow in their craft, especially those who may not have the opportunity to travel, ensuring that this education continues to inspire and uplift the industry.
