Professional Dutch Floral Design Course (International/English)

The international professional Dutch Floral Design course at the Boerma Instituut is a floristry course that is an excellent base for anyone aiming at a professional career in floral design, like florists, arrangers, florist shopkeepers, and sellers in ambulant trade. More than that, it provides a splendid education for anyone who loves flowers and floral design and as a hobbyist truly wants to learn all tricks of the trade. To take this professional course, no specific knowledge or experience is required.
At the Dutch Floral Design-professional course, you obtain all techniques and skills you need to produce a high-quality floral design. You can participate without any prior experience with floral design; we teach you all basic technical skills. In other words, there are no special educational requirements.
What you learn at the professional Dutch Floral Design (DFD) course
The Dutch Floral Design-professional course consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. Even though the theory lessons are not part of the examination, we feel it is important to provide you with some theoretical knowledge. The theory classes cover materials knowledge, colour theory, the design scheme, styles and principals of floral design.
In the practical part, the emphasis is on techniques. After all, if you fully master all technical skills, you will be able to create all conventional arrangements.

It is possible to register for the full DFD course or for the DFD course in modules?
We understand that for some people it’s difficult to follow a course for 4 weeks straight. That’s why we also offer the possibility to follow the course in multiple steps.
For instance, the complete course is 4 weeks, each week is a different module. This makes it possible for example to follow 2 modules in Spring and 2 modules in Autumn.
You can find the dates for the different modules in the registration menu.
When you register for all 3 professional courses (DFD, ADFD and MDFD) simultaneously you will receive a discount of 10% on the total fee of the three courses combined.
Send us an e-mail for more info.

Homework: practice is important!
During the classes of Boerma Instituut, we teach you all necessary techniques and skills. However, you also have to learn to work with a certain degree of speed for your creations for economic reasons! This means that you will have to practice a lot. To facilitate this, we provide you with homework. Allow for approximately one evening per week to work on your home assignments.
To be able to practice the different arrangements you don’t have to purchase expensive materials. During the course, we will provide tips and tricks on that. Materials for home assignments are not included with the course fee. Materials such as foam, wire, tape, etc. can be purchased at our (web) shop www.floraldesignsupplies.com.
All necessary materials and the examination are included in the price, as well as coffee, tea, beverages and lunches.
