After the DFD professional course there is much more to learn about the world of professional floral design. That’s why Boerma Instituut offers the possibility of a course that seamlessly fits on the DFD professional course, the Advanced Dutch Floral Design (ADFD)-professional course. 

To participate in this course, you first have to pass the examination of the Dutch Floral Design-professional course or an education of a comparable level.

Advanced Dutch Floral Design international English course

The international Advanced Dutch Floral Design (ADFD)-professional course is in English, during 4 weeks, 5 days per week.

What do you learn at the Advanced Dutch Floral Design (ADFD)?

Where the Professional Dutch Floral Design course focuses on the fundamentals and is very practically oriented, the Advanced course will start developing your own creativity and ideas.
The biggest difference is that in this course the teacher will show several techniques and then everyone will start working on their own design according to the subject of the day.
Afterwards all arrangements are discussed amongst all students, so everybody learns as much as possible from each other.

The program

During the ADFD course, a large number of new works, techniques, and materials are treated. Some of these are mentioned here for illustration:

• Advanced bridal work, like;  Cascading bridal, Frame bridal bouquets, Bridal bouquet without standard handle, Floral Jewelry.
• Contemporary funeral arrangements: Funeral Wreath, Urn decoration, Experimental funeral design
• General arrangements:  Displacements, Arrangements with vegetables and/or fruit, Corporate Designs, Several arrangement styles, Structure arrangements, Free Style Arrangements.
• Event design: car decoration, room decoration.

Some of the techniques we use: tubes, wire, gluing, plaiting, braiding, foam free techniques.

Theory lessons:

• Design Schema.
• Advanced Principles of design.
• Table settings.

There will also be multiple group projects to get used to working together with other florists (from other countries), from the first draft to the final flower.

Course dates 2025

Monday, February 10 – Friday, March 7, 2025 (4 weeks)
Monday, October 6 – Friday, October 31 (4 weeks)
All course days start at 10.00 until 15.45, and this includes a coffee (or tea) break and a Dutch lunch buffet.

All necessary materials are included, and also beverages and lunch.

All materials includes:

• All flowers and leaf materials
• All containers
• Knife and scissors
• The exam and Boerma Instituut Advanced Dutch Floral Design-diploma (or certificate if you do not pass the exam)

Not included:

• Materials for home assignments
• Meals (with the exception of lunch during daytime courses)
• Materials that can be taken from home for the exam
• Travel and accommodation costs

When looking at other programs from other schools, please make sure to check if all the materials are included when comparing prices.
Many schools actually do not include flowers, lunch and exam in their course fee. This might make those programs look more affordable, when actually they are not.
